Soooo….yea, a little late on getting this up on Skatevirus but…better late than never right??!! Anyways, some of the guys from Fishbanks Skateshop were planning an Oregon roadtrip for the fall of 2010. Lincoln City, Burnside and Tigard were all in the idea hat of spots to hit not knowing we would get to hit up some private skate spots as well. There were eight of us all piled into a big Ford van normally used for gigs. Jordan, Dan, Noggin, Dave D., Nelson, Andrew, Eric and me, Jones. I was excited, really excited, I had’nt been to Oregon in years. It seemed to always be on this list when the Slam City Jams were happening in Vancouver BC. But those days were long gone and I was ready for a pure Oregon skate trip, I was hoping my knees could handle it!
We all met up and got in the van, Jordan plays in a band so this was his tour rig that he wanted to take on the road. Got outa the Bay Area and went through Sac-Town to pick up Nogga-Tron 2000, aka Noggin! First stop was the Weed California Skatepark, which we only hit because we were itch’n to skate! With Mt Shasta in the background greeting us it started us off with a great vibe. Dan busted some fat airs in the bowl, Noggin slammed hard as shit and we all craved around feeling the concrete.
On our way, we got into Oregon late and it was dark, I pulled out my Droid phone and found some camp grounds in Wolf Creek. It was cool, no one around, super dark, creepy town folk at the store. Gotta come here again!
The next dat we charged to Lincoln City and took it all in, the park is like 5 parks in one. We had good time even though we all slammed and it hurt! Dan killed it, a local named Ian ripped it up, Nelson went high in the cradle. Afterwards we hit the beach at night, its a long, flat and foggy beach that seemed to stretch forever. It was cool.
On our way out we headed to Travis’s house in Salem, he was a friend of Nelson’s. He also happend to have his own bowl in his backyard, that gave us goosebumps. We got in late and still skated the bowl. It was beautiful! Once again Dan ripped it, Dave D. got some tricks and so did Jordan. Eric setup his tent in the bowl afterwards and some of the guys camped out in the nighttime rain. The next day we headed to Donald to skate the park and then off to Neuburg to check our Phil’s indoor bowl and what I thought was the funnest back yard mini bowl setup ever. Phil was very accommodating, thanks Phil! His big bowl was outa control, the shallow end I swear was oververt!
Another night at Travis’s and the next day we went to Burnside, we got yelled at for drinking beers but I guess they are trying hard to keep it very tidy and proper. We skated there for a bit and it was great, we also hit up Santaria’s Burrito joint connected to Mary’s gentlemens club and enjoyed Mexican food and more! I also got some Voo-Doo Donuts which were good but I still perfer Psycho donuts here in San Jose.
After Burnside and Portland we hit the Tigard Skatepark, now thats a cool park. We were burnt out at this point and headed home after some quick runs there. Stayed one more night in Wolf Creek and watched Noggin pulled a flaming log kickflip with Andrews help. Cant wait to get up there again! ps, check out Dave D.’s video edit of the trip below…

“I cant believe punk bands are playing music at Greer skatepark!” is what I kept hearing on Sunday at Stew’s Skate Jam. How awesome is that!? Pretty freakin’ awesome! And so is the amount of people that came out to hang and skate in the memory of a guy who skated Greer quite a bit, Stewart Sutter. Unfortunately he was killed in September 2011 doing what he also loved, riding his Triumph triple cylinder motorcycle through the twisty roads of Northern California. As a motorcyclist myself, for over 20 years, it hits me hard in the heart thinking about Stew and his two loves. Some of us seem to walk a fine line between danger and safety which at any point in time can deal us life or death without a choice. But we just keep plugging along doing it the best we can because we are alive and we love what we do each and every day. Isn’t that what life’s about? I didn’t know Stew but I know I met him at a skatepark , a ramp or passing him the opposite way on a twisty mountain back road both on our bikes. Stew loved his life as we all do. When we are gone from this life I hope that we all get remembered with a celebration of life like we did for Stew on Sunday. Maybe it too will be at a skate jam, a party or a memorial motorcycle ride into the clouds on a twisty mountain back road.
September 24th2011: The TMB Memorial Contest went off and is getting bigger and better every year! San Jose was home to Tim Brauch and is home to the Lake Cunningham skatepark with it magnificent “Skull Bowl”. The street contest was held at Scotts Valley Tim Brauch skatepark the following weekend and more shredding went down! Here are some pics and I will add more a little later… Jones
