June 23rd, 2011

I almost forgot about the annual “Go Skateboarding Day” that was about to happen on June 21st 2011 if it was’nt for a guy in France. Yes, France. He messaged me through skatevirus.com and asked “are you guys doing anything for Go Skateboarding Day?”. I knew I had totally forgot and thought to myself  ”Oh man! that’s in 5 days!” I replied back to him with a  ”Definitely!” and made some quick calls to Circle-A Skateshop , The Tool Skatetool and Breezy Excursion Clothing for sponsorship and prizes to help organize San Jose’s Go Skateboarding Day. We put together an idea to skate to a few different skateparks one after another and do a best trick contest at each park then have awards and a BBQ back at Circle-A Skateshop. We also made sure to skate through San Jose City Hall and make some noise in the process! We did all this in some cloudless 95 degree summer weather!

First Stop: Mayfair’s “Red” Skatepark. Randy Truong threw down frontside 360s, 360 flips and a really clean laser flip over the pyramid. Diego Flores blasted a backside 180 airwalk over the pyramid to flat and Brandon Calderham 360 flipped the pyramid to flat snapping his tail off in the process!

2nd Stop: Plata Arroyo Skatepark where it was getting hot outside, and after skating from the Red park people were starting to feel it. We did best trick on the stepup/tech gap. Chris Henderson did bs 180 nosegrinds, an annoymous skater did gap to smith and gap to fs crooks. Diego Flores vaulted a backside 180 from flat to flatbottom in precision fashion.

3rd Stop: Roosevelt skatepark where there was close to 100 people and it was a frenzied skate session, but think people were having fun and ignoring the heat. They were deffinitely thinking about the BBQ and prizes by then! Randy Truong was hitting the box with long fs crooks and fsts big spins, Brandon McCormick back lipped the entire box.

Honerable mentions were Brian Reynolds, Chris Henderson, Macolm Guerrero, Oscar Sarellano, Brandon McCormick, Pancho Pacheco and many more ripping throughout the day. Not to mention all the skateboarders pushing park to park and back to Circle A!
